10th element. 10th anniversary. It is only fitting that the annual Science Winter Formal would be re-branded as the Neon Gala - a virtual event - to mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Carleton Science Student Society. Due to the current circumstances, we couldn’t celebrate our anniversary in person but the VP Programming Portfolio worked tirelessly to create a memorable experience for science students!

Normally, the Science Winter Formal takes place on one day where people arrive at the venue of choice in lavish gowns, sharp tuxedos, and they eat, drink, and dance the night away! The Neon Gala turned one day of awesomeness into three days of awesomeness!

On Day 1, the SciSoc Alumni Panel took place as a networking opportunity for current Carleton Science Students. Previous SciSoc Presidents and other SciSoc Alumni were on the panel for a casual chat with attendees moderated by the VP Programming Portfolio’s very own Morgan Davis. The day met its conclusion with the first round of giveaways.

On Day 2, we had ASAPScience, a creator who is near and dear to the hearts of science students and the greater science community, attend. I made sure to attend this event and honestly after it I was left feeling a little starstruck! These two shared their origin story with us, made us laugh, gave advice on how to become science communicators, and made us laugh even more ! The day concluded with the second round of giveaways!

Day 3 kicked off with a Zoom call that included an address from Dr. Bertram. After an intense Kahoot Battle, we had the pleasure of having Darrion Nguyen aka Lab Shenanigans come as a keynote speaker. The event capped off with a Zoom Party and a third round of giveaways!
